Construction's Architectural Record Inaugurates First Innovation
Conference
How Science and Innovation are
Transforming Building Design and Construction is Focus of
Two Day Meeting In New York City
NEW YORK -- September
4, 2003 -- McGraw-Hill Construction's Architectural
Record, part of The McGraw-Hill Companies (NYSE: MHP), will
bring together inventors, scientists, and visionaries, with
architects, builders and other members of the construction
industry at its first Innovation Conference.
DuPont and a number of leading organizations are sponsoring
the conference which takes place October 8-9, 2003 at The
Westin New York at Times Square in New York City.
Today, revolutionary new substances
and manufacturing technologies, including mass customization,
nanotechnology, rapid prototyping and composites are on the
verge of transforming the way we design and construct buildings.
The conference will focus on how these technologies, tools
and approaches will transform the building design and construction
industry. Prominent architects, material scientists and manufacturing
experts will lead discussions focusing on where innovation
is headed, how technology transfer speeds up the process,
how innovation is funded in other industries, and what private
and governmental resources are available.
Keynote speakers and discussion leaders
include Sir Nicholas Grimshaw of Nicholas Grimshaw & Partners
and James Eyre of Wilkinson Eyre Architects. Other speakers
include Alan Heeger, Nobel Laureate from the University of
California; Constance Adams of Lockheed Martin; Marc Cohen
and Benjamin Neumann of NASA; Dalen Keys of DuPont; Tom Strevey
of Boeing; Jae Min of Audi; and Ben Schwegler Jr. of Walt
Disney Imagineering. In addition, Stephen Kieran and James
Timberlake of KieranTimberlake Associates will present their
Latrobe Fellowship-sponsored research on technology transfer
and its application to design and construction.
