Construction Co.
Access
to TurnerUniversity.com Promotes Continuing Education
NEW YORK -- May
29, 2003 -- McGraw-Hill Construction, part of the The
McGraw-Hill Companies (NYSE: MHP) today announced a partnership
with Turner Construction Company that will enable members
and users of McGraw-Hill Construction's construction.com to
access Turner University online courses through the
McGraw-Hill website. Construction.com is the industry's most
trafficked commercial construction website.
Turner Construction Company, a wholly-owned
subsidiary of The Turner Corporation, the nation's leading
general builder, began developing an online education and
information tool, Turner Knowledge Network (TKN) in
1999. Last year, Turner University began offering courses
to employees and current business partners interested in taking
construction-related and general software courses. In March,
2003, TKN was rolled out to the general public.
There are 28 competitively priced classes currently available
through Turner University. These self-paced courses use various
forms of teaching, videos, text, examples and tests to guide
each student and ensure they understand material in one module
before going to the next. An OSHA web-based certification
program, OSHA 30-Hour Certification, is available, along with
business related courses that address reading financial statements,
risk management and technical courses that focus on subcontractor
specialties, such as fire suppression and plumbing. For more
information about the courses, go to www.construction.com,
and visit the Career Center to access The Turner Knowledge
Network (TKN).
"McGraw-Hill Construction is dedicated
to connecting its users and member communities to the leading
information and intelligence of the construction industry,"
commented its president, Norbert W. Young, Jr., FAIA. "Turner
Construction Company has taken a leadership position in offering
construction-related educational courses through its online
university. The availability of Turner University TM on construction.com
will enable fast access to valuable information that will
help our users do their jobs better."
"Turner Construction Company is delighted to join forces
with McGraw-Hill Construction to promote Turner University
to its clients," said James I. Mitnick, senior vice president
of Turner and sponsor of Turner Knowledge Network. "Our
goal for Turner University is to become the 'go to' place
for construction learning in the United States."
