construction.com and Ironmax Forge Strategic Alliance

Agreement Expands construction.com's Functionality by Incorporating Ironmax's Comprehensive Construction Equipment Offerings

NEW YORK, March 5, 2001 - Construction.com, the most comprehensive online marketplace for construction professionals and part of The McGraw-Hill Companies (NYSE: MHP), and Ironmax Inc., the leading provider of construction equipment information resources, today announced a strategic alliance to provide construction professionals with powerful online tools for the procurement and management of construction equipment.

With this agreement, Ironmax becomes the provider of construction equipment content, applications and services for construction.com. This alliance enables construction.com to provide the industry's most reliable online decision-enabling equipment reference guides, as well as a timesaving Request-for-Quote transaction mechanism, to the largest user base in the construction industry.

Construction.com is the industry's leading portal in content, community and commerce through F.W. Dodge, which offers details on more than 500,000 projects valued at over $1 trillion, Sweet's, the project resource for 90% of the world's architects and design professionals, and through the rich content of Engineering News-Record, Architectural Record and Design-Build. Construction.com is the commercial construction industry's most-visited Web site, logging over 900,000 user sessions monthly.

"Construction.com has already established itself as the premier Internet portal for learning about and procuring construction projects and products. With the addition of Ironmax as an alliance partner, we now can include equipment to that list," said Norbert W. Young, Jr., FAIA, president, The McGraw-Hill Companies' Construction Information Group and construction.com.

Ironmax will host an extensive and growing set of online applications within construction.com for buyers, sellers, renters, users, and manufacturers of construction equipment, as well as for service providers to the industry. This comprehensive channel within construction.com will be co-branded as "Powered by Ironmax." Ironmax's unparalleled suite of tools for construction equipment management includes online versions of such industry-standard products as The Last BidTM auction results, the Green GuideTM equipment value handbook, and the Rental Rate Blue BookTM ownership and operating cost guide, as well as applications for comparing specifications and performing other critical functions.

"It's a perfect union - a trusted leader in the construction world, with brands over 100 years old, partnering with the most advanced developer and aggregator of construction equipment services," said Steven Paradis, Ironmax chairman and chief executive officer. "Becoming part of the construction.com community provides significant opportunities for Ironmax to immediately broaden the distribution of our products, and to eventually exploit other synergies between the companies."

"We chose Ironmax because of their industry experience and technical capabilities, as demonstrated in the depth and rapid development of their product offering," concluded Mr. Young. "Our customers have asked us to provide equipment services and Ironmax is the authoritative source."
